Book Review : Savoring Single by Shelley Black

I’m so excited to be participating in the Savoring Single Blog Tour!! Y’all this book is a precious gift and I can tell you it is going to bless so many young women’s lives! I was blessed with a free copy of Savoring Single to do a book review. So lets begin, shall we….

Why savoring single? Because you were meant to enjoy it!
Finding purpose, knowing love, and experiencing adventure aren’t reserved solely for the married girls! You can enjoy a full and vibrant life even while being single. It’s also a perfect time to partner with what God wants to develop in you through this once-in-a-lifetime part of your journey! Girl, being single is okay. There is a purpose for it, and it won’t last forever. So savor it!

Savoring Single is truly perfect! From front to back, the author Shelley Black gives us girls the truth that we all needed to hear. Its like reading a book from a big sister… our sister in Christ. I knew I was going to love this book from the first pages upon Shelley praying for you, how unique and awesome is that!!
Every point that is made in this gem of a book is backed with Scripture. Even the prayers at the end of each chapter, have Scripture quotations. This book isn’t just Shelley’s opinion on being single, she gives you practical advice on how to enjoy your single season and use it to the glory of God.

Chapter Eight -Pursuing Adventure was one of my favorites (although it was a hard choice). I love the fact that we are encouraged to find our own adventures and not wait for a specific season of life; to do things on our own (or with family & friends when available). Try unfamiliar places to eat, or travel to locations you have always wanted to see. I personally want to start going on coffee dates, just me and Jesus, because with him as company I won’t be lacking a plus one.

I’ve read books about being single before, and honestly few have measured up. I often come away feeling my whole life is about preparing for marriage, and while that’s a good goal, its not my life purpose. Shelley really lays out that our whole lives boil down to our relationship with God, anything after that is just icing on the cupcake 😉 I love the fact that the author encourages us to fully live life right now!

Forever & Always,

Fiercehearted By Holley Gerth

A fiercehearted woman looks life in the face and says, “You can’t beat me.” She knows love is a risk but reaches out anyway. She chases Jesus with a tender, world-changing wildness. She never gives in, never gives up, and never lets go. Best of all, the potential to be a fiercehearted woman is inside each and every woman on earth.

In her most powerful book yet, beloved bestselling author Holley Gerth inspires her readers to become the stronger, braver, truer women they long to be by sharing personal stories of her own struggles and victories. As readers join Holley on this journey, they’ll discover a freedom they never imagined could be theirs: the freedom to experience life, love, and faith to the fullest because fear can no longer hold them back.

For the woman who is restless or longing for more, Fiercehearted is an invitation to the life God has always meant for her to embrace.

I’ve read quite a few inspirational books recently that have changed my perspective . Of these, I gained the most encouragement from Fiercehearted.

This book is for those who feel they will never be, do , or accomplish enough. Holley comes beside you and says “When you get to the end of these pages. I want you to also be able to say with certainty, “I’m not the only one.” I want all of us to feel less alone and more comfortable in our God-sewn skin and a little surer that we are a force to be reckoned with in this world.”  I can say Holley accomplished this!  That’s exactly how I felt , not just during reading , but as I finished the last page.

Fiercehearted encourages you to replace all the striving for the wrong things and start embracing who God created you to be. Chapter 26 was one of my favorites. The way my anxiety works is very similar and it felt so wonderful to see it expressed in words I often struggle to find.

This book was easily five stars and I recommended it to everyone.

Forever & Always,

The Huntress Of Thornbeck Forest By Melanie Dickerson

A beautiful maiden who poaches to feed the poor.

A handsome forester on a mission to catch her.

Danger and love are about to unite in Thornbeck Forest.

The margrave owns the finest hunting grounds for miles around—and Odette Menkels spends her nights poaching his deer to feed the hungry orphans of Thornbeck. By day , Odette is a simple maiden who teaches children to read, but by night this young beauty has become the secret lifeline to the poorest of the poor.

For Jorgen Hartman, the margrave’s forester, tracking down a poacher is a duty he is all too willing to perform. Jorgen inherited his post from the man who raised him . . . a man who was murdered at the hands of a poacher.

When Jorgen and Odette meet at the Midsummer festival and share a connection during a dance, neither has any idea that they are already adversaries.

The one man she wants is bound by duty to capture her; the one woman he loves is his cunning target . . . What becomes of a forester who protects a notorious poacher? What becomes of a poacher when she is finally discovered?

Do you ever read a book and can’t contain your excitement about it , so you make someone listen to you ramble. Because that’s what I did with this book. My mother and sister can probably tell you all about it without ever picking the book up. That’s how good The Huntress Of Thornbeck Forest was.

Now to tell you about it (without spoilers)

What I loved :

  • The plot was so well written, maybe a bit predictable in some aspects but also had a few surprises .
  • Everything about Jorgen,I just love his character. He’s strong , brave , kind , smart and compassionate.
  • It’s fair to say I don’t like a ton of female characters and yet Odette passed my approval and I love her as much as Jorgen. She’s a strong woman who has her own opinion and finds a way to solve a problem nobody else even acknowledges . Plus she teaches the poor children to read and write, giving them all a chance at a better future.
  • Character back stories are awesome! I can’t say much with out spoiling it, just know that both Odette and Jorgen’s backstories plays a huge role in the whole book and I loved it.
  • Hello flawed characters who are still good people!
  • The “bad guys” stay in role the whole time, and aren’t very remorseful at the end which is different from what I usually read. I liked it though, I know a few people who would be in the wrong and still not show remorse so it felt very realistic.
  • Happy endings are my favorite! I’m sorry but I do not get emotionally invested in characters just to be disappointed at the end, I don’t want realistic. If I wanted that I would watch the news . Lucky for me Melanie Dickerson read my mind and gave me what I wanted 😉

I have nothing bad to say about this book. I loved it! Five stars!

Shaken by Tim Tebow

Who are you when life is steady?
Who are you when storms come?

Most of us have been on the receiving end of rejection, a broken dream, or heartbreak. And while this is not an easy space to go through, when we are grounded in the truth, we can endure the tough times.
In this powerful book, Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow passionately shares glimpses of his journey staying grounded in the face of disappointment, criticism, and intense media scrutiny. Following an exceptional college football career with the Florida Gators and a promising playoff run with the Denver Broncos, Tebow was traded to the New York Jets. He was released after one season.
In Shaken, Tebow talks about what he’s learned along the way, building confidence in his identity in God, not the world. This moving book also features practical wisdom from Scripture and insights gained from others who have impacted Tebow in life-changing ways.
Though traveling hard roads is not easy, it’s always worth it!
Your Circumstances do not Define You,
Your Identity Does.

I was so excited to read this book, and it honestly could not have come at a better time in my life. Last year I had lost myself, a major part of who I am was no longer there. I had given up talking to God and I had given up on myself, not really caring who I was anymore.

Then I got this book for Christmas. I love Tim,  not only what he stands for but who he is as a person. I can’t tell you how much this book encouraged my heart. I finally felt like it was time to be me again, and I knew how. Shaken helped me remember my goals in life and who I wanted to be in Christ.

I feel like the reader gets to see a different side of Tim Tebow in this book, a more real , honest and raw version. He walks us through his disappointment’s and also gives encouragement .

One of my favorite quotes from the book (besides the  above pictured )is : “When we ask questions, when we doubt, when we wonder if God is going to pull through, or wonder why He didn’t pull through, or wonder why our miracle is  taking so long, or why the miracle never came at all, remember that doubt is normal. God isn’t scared of your questions. Bring them to Him. It’s better to vent to Him than to run from Him.”

Easily five stars! Something everyone should read.

Forever and Always ,
